Shannon's Story (shannylou929)

Shannon's TTC journey began in August 2007.

She got her BFP on March 25, 2009!

Here's her story:
After a chemical pregnancy with our first IVF in November of 2009, we decided to give it another shot starting in January of 2009. We met with the RE to go over our plan and what part of the protocol he was going to change. He felt that my body responded too slow to the medications on the first round which in turn led to slow developing embryos that ultimately resulted in my miscarriage. I was so glad that he felt he knew what the problem was and had a plan to move forward. I had bloodwork done that day so see if I had ovulated and I hadn't so I was put on provera to bring on my period. A few days later, I began my birth control pills and we were on our way. Everything was different about the 2nd cycle including how my body responded to the medications, and how I handled the journey (Part II) physically and emotionally. It was a lot easier the 2nd time around because I knew what to expect, it wasn't a guessing game and I was able to relax more. During this time, my husbands company got bought out and he received new insurance with full 100% coverage of IVF, so I do think the weight that was lifted regarding money helped tremendously with me being able to focus on the big prize. I had my egg retrieval on March 9th and they retrieved 19 eggs, however, I received some disappointing news the next day when I found out only 9 of those were mature and only 7 fertilized with ICSI. I decided to call those my "lucky 7" and prayed that at least one would make it to transfer. At day 3, all 7 were still doing well so the RE told us we would be doing a day 5 transfer. On day 5, we had two morulas (so close to being blasts) to transfer but unfortauntely, we were told we would have none to freeze. Once again, our hopes were in the hands of the two embabies being placed back into my uterus. We had high hopes and many prayers that God would bring us our baby. On 7/8dpo I started to experience some menstral like cramping, it would only last a few hours at a time and I was just praying that it was one of our little embabies embedding into their new little home. On 11DPO I decided to take a HPT and within 3 minutes I saw the faintest faint line I have ever seen. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me in all honesty, so I wrapped it up to bring to work to show my best friend. I told her, please don't get excited but I need your opinion on something. I showed it to her and she started jumping up and down, yes yes thats definitely a line! The next few days I would test and the line was getting darker. During the 2WW I was having some huge issues with the suppositories that I was taking, they were irritating my vaginal area tremendously to where I was swollen and itchy. I wasn't supposed to have my beta until 18DPO but I called the nurse on 16DPO and told her I couldn't take the pain anymore. She told me that my only other option was PIO shots, but to come in for an early beta because if it wasn't positive, there would be no need to continue any meds. I was so nervous, but so excited. I had my beta and within 2 hours she called me with the best two words next to my husband asking my hand in marriage, "You're Pregnant!" We both started crying together on the phone, I quickly called my husband to tell him the good news and then we cried on the phone together. It was a magical day.

Here's what she has to say about her pregnancy:

It started off with a lot of morning sickness. I was either getting sick or feeling nauseous until week 14, I could hardly eat anything and the smell of most foods made me sick. I lost about 10 pounds before I started to feel better. At week 12 I had my 1st Trimester Screening which was ultimately our first look at the baby as something more than a dot on the screen. It was very neat and very emotional at the same time. We discovered at that appointment that our baby had a thicker than normal nucleal fold (neck thickness) which is a marker for genetic or heart disorders. We decided right on the spot to have a CVS test done to check for chromosomal abnormalties. It was very scary, a very very long needle placed into my stomach to get DNA from the placenta. I was put on bedrest for 2 days following the procedure and when I came back to work on Wednesday the nurse called to tell me that the baby passed the preliminary testing, but that it would be another week or so before we got the full results. She did however share with us another bit of amazing news, that Kyle and I would be parents to a beautiful bouncing baby BOY! Long story short...Longest week of my life... but at the end of the next week we found out that all chromosome disorders had been ruled out. I had to to a child cardiologist a few weeks later to have the baby's heart looked at, we got the green light at that appointment too- so all in all it turns out the baby just had a thick neck and there was nothing to be worried about. Whew. Since then, the pregnancy has been rather uneventful besides the occasional backaches and horrible acid reflux. I will be entering my third trimester on Sept 6th and cannot believe we are almost to the end. I have documented every step of the two IVFs and my pregnancy on my blog Praying4aBabyBoo.Blogspot.com
